Hidrock Realty and Marriott International recently welcomed more than 200 guests to celebrate the grand opening of New York’s newest Courtyard by Marriott at 960 Sixth Ave. in Herald Square. The official ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Jack Hidary, CEO of Hidrock Realty; David Marriott, COO, Eastern Region, The Americas at Marriott International; and George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. After the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed a reception at the hotel’s rooftop lounge, Monarch, which is scheduled to open to the public in the next month. The 5,000-square-foot space by Ric Addison and Stephen Daly features views of the Empire State Building, Hudson River, Herald Square and sight lines along Sixth Avenue to Central Park.

“The Courtyard New York Manhattan/Herald Square is perfectly situated to cater to business and leisure travelers from all over the world,” said Hidary. “Not only is it close to Times Square and Herald Square, but the hotel sits directly along the route for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and provides postcard views of the city skyline—particularly the Empire State Building. We look forward to seeing this hotel become a successful component of the iconic New York landscape.”

The 16-story hotel is housed in the former Atlantic Bank of New York building that was built in 1928 and features an indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge, a fitness center, guest laundry, and offers 500 square feet of meeting space.

The 167-room Courtyard New York Manhattan/Herald Square also offers a stylish room design that helps guests stay connected, productive and comfortable. Thoughtfully planned, each room features plush bedding, a functional work space, spacious bathrooms, a separate seating area and complimentary in-room high-speed Internet.

The grand opening marked the completion of Hidrock’s second Marriott-flagged hotel; they celebrated the grand opening of New York City’s first SpringHill Suites last month. Hidrock and Marriott are working together on a third hotel development, also a Courtyard by Marriott, at 133 Greenwich St. directly across the street from the World Trade Center.
